Summer classes (held over six weeks in the evenings) in Ballet, Jazz, Pre-pointe, Creative Movement, Mommy & Me, and more provide emerging dancers the opportunity to stay on track with their progression to the next level. Enrollment in The Tallahassee Ballet School classes is limited. Registration is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Early enrollment is encouraged. The dress code is adhered to.

Summer Classes at Barre

2025 summer classes (six-week session)

Ages 7 and younger

Ages 18mo.-2yrs.

Mommy (My Adult) & Me

Introduce little ones to the magic of dance while enjoying the company of other adults and babies in our studio. This 45-minute class focuses on coordination, direction, balance, dance movement, and rhythm concepts great for early development of kinetic skills. It also introduces discipline to your little ones while they learn to dance alongside other students. This class is perfect for mothers, dads, and other caregivers for exercise and bonding with their little ones. 

 

Ages 3-4 yrs

Creative Movement

A bubbly, fun class for young dancers without parental participation. Classes consists of movement activities meant to develop coordination, direction, balance, and rhythm through fantasy and the utilization of colorful props. A perfect preparation for our Primary Level class, as it introduces some very basic ballet vocabulary in a creative setting for your child’s imagination.

 

Ages 4-7

  • Primary A/B Ballet
    This lively ballet class for the young dancer focuses on coordination, balance, rhythm, flexibility, basic kinetic skills, and creative expression through dance. The class is set to classical music and will introduce students to the foundational skills and vocabulary of ballet.

  • ​Primary Ballet/Tap
    Strength, coordination, flexibility, rhythmic skills, and diverse performance skills through both classical ballet vocabulary and the percussive influences of American tap are built in this fun combination class!

  • Primary Ballet/Jazz
    This combination ballet and jazz class will build strength, coordination, flexibility, rhythmic, and diverse performance skills through both classical ballet vocabulary and the rhythmic influences of jazz!

Ages 7+

  • Level 1 Ballet
    This bright and disciplined ballet class introduces basic classical movements while progressing strength and rhythmic skills. Ballet vocabulary and technique are taught through both barre and center work, including movements across the floor. Must be invited to the Student Division by the School Administrative Staff or a new beginner between the ages of 7-11 years old.

  • Level 1 Jazz
    This class is designed for young dancers who would like to add another type of dance to their vocabulary. This class will build strength, technique, movement quality, rhythm, balance, and performance skills by introducing students to classical jazz vocabulary and conditioning. It includes a warm-up, across-the-floor exercises, and a fun choreography combination to up-beat music!

  • Level ½ Lyrical/Jazz
    This class will build strength, technique, movement quality, rhythm, balance, and jump by introducing students to classical jazz vocabulary and conditioning. Lyrical is an expressive type of dance that combines the art of ballet and jazz. The style of lyrical prepares dancers to transition between the styles of Ballet and Contemporary. The class consists of warm-up exercises on the floor and standing, as well as movement across the floor. Class culminates in the practice of choreography and artistry as well as improvisational skills.

  • Ballet​
    Level 2 and 3 Ballet Classes are designed for students with a minimum of two years of prior experience wanting to develop and strengthen their ballet skills with aspirations of pointe work and auditioning for TTB’s Youth Company. Ballet vocabulary and technique is taught through barre and center floor work, including combinations across the floor. These classes also begin to bring attention to the artistry of ballet movement and fluidly connecting steps, as well as preparing young dancers for auditions and performances. Ages are taken into consideration; however, students will be considered for these levels according to individual experience and progress in obtaining technique, strength, and flexibility appropriate to Level 2 or 3. 

  • Level 4/5 Ballet
    An advanced class designed to expand the body’s movement capabilities through challenging and complex combinations. It focuses on the use of upper body, moving through space, and using artistry along with technical abilities. With a very enthusiastic and outgoing approach, you will leave this class feeling a sense of mental and physical accomplishment and enjoyment. Students are placed according to individual progress in obtaining technique, strength, flexibility, and the proper execution of the ballet vocabulary and pointe work appropriate to Level 4/5. 

  • Pointe Technique and Variations
    By Placement Only. For dancers ready to advance their pointe work (minimum of 1 full year of pointe experience required). Class focuses on the fundamentals of pointe work while building the strength necessary to progress en pointe and eventually execute classical variations. Class includes barre work, center, across-the-floor exercises, and coaching in performance and artistic qualities for classical variations. 

  • Contemporary
    Contemporary is an important genre of dance performed in societies around the world, celebrated by people both young and old. Developed during the 20th century, contemporary dance involves incorporating aspects of movement from several other genres, such as jazz, modern, and ballet.

  • Pre-Pointe
    For dancers ages 9 and older (by invitation of Education Director only) with a minimum of three years of classical ballet experience and ready to begin or continue specified strengthening for the ability to progress into pointe safely. All participating students are required to take a ballet class of the appropriate level immediately prior to class in order to properly warm up their body and maintain regular maintenance of technique. This class utilizes barre and centre exercises, as well as tools such as Therabands® to provide the dancers with at-home routines to grow. Dancers will need a light-resistance Theraband®/resistance band and may prefer to bring a yoga mat/towel.

Open Division

Ballet​
Adult/Teen Ballet classes are for seasoned dancers, new beginners, and returning students. Beginner/Intermediate level classes utilize a slower pace throughout class to introduce and/or reinforce Ballet terminology and technique. Intermediate/Advanced level classes build on the foundations of Ballet terminology and technique while moving through a faster-paced class. 

  • Teen Beginning Ballet
    A Student Division Ballet class for dancers ages 12-18 wishing to begin ballet for the first time or return in a slow-paced environment!

  • Pointe Technique for Adults
    A pointe/pre-pointe class designed specifically for Adult students! Class includes barre work, center, and across-the-floor exercises. Students must also be enrolled in a ballet class to be considered eligible.

  • Introduction to Contemporary
    Contemporary is an important genre of dance performed in societies around the world, celebrated by people both young and old. Developed during the 20th century, contemporary dance involves incorporating aspects of movement from several other genres such as jazz, modern and ballet. This class is for dancers of all abilities ages 10+.
